A recent example of a joint venture between an individual and a large music company is that of Simon Cowell of the X factor fame and Sony. They have teamed up (for five years) under the name of SyCo to oversee all of the acts discovered on his shows and any new acts he will be devising during this period. This is not going to be the year the industry music died.

Nor can anyone say Television is dead especially after the news that Google has also teamed up with Sony to take on formally failed attempts to marry TV with the Internet.

New examples for joint venture opportunities appear every day in all walks of life. As a strategy it is golden. Constantly look around with the joint venture mindset and you will never be short on possibilities that can be put together for the benefit of all those involved.

You do not have to own a business to do a joint venture, strategic alliance or a partnership. There are literally hundreds of ways you can put a working relationship together.

That’s the beauty of it all. If you are, for example, employed you can look around for opportunities that can maximize on your own skill set to contribute to the bottom line of your employers business. Here everyone can benefit enormously by you putting together an opportunity where you place yourself strategically in a position to add a lot of value to something that is currently not being done.

There may be, for example, underutilized assets in the company you work for or a system that can be implemented that can do things quicker or with less effort therefore saving or adding money to the bottom line for the company.

There is basically no limit to what you can do especially as it is my experience that opportunities abound everywhere. What we do need however is an easy way to recognize these opportunities. Most of us have not been trained to identify these opportunities mostly because we are so bogged down dealing with our lives and work that the extra effort seems to be almost insurmountable.

If you have an idea of how this can be done please add a comment to this post below. I would be most grateful.

There must be something going on. Every day I hear of great ideas and come across underutilized resources.

How can these be put together?

One way we put them together is to meet up with like minded people. We can join a business club or go online to a social networking site. We can read up on how things can get done or go and play golf in the hope that we can meet up with the right person who may be able to help.

For any entrepreneur his or her business is always front of mind, all day every day. We are always searching for opportunities to improve our service or product. As we know there are many ways to improve our lot. What works for one does not necessarily work for another.

Personally what would work for me is to become involved in a supportive environment that brings you face to face with your prospective future partner. Face to face can mean an experience in person or an experience online.

Today we have various forms of enhanced technology that can allow us to communicate online. You can use text, audio, video, teleconferences, webinars, forums, membership sites and other tools to gain a better idea of who you are dealing with. However this all takes time, the sifting and sorting to narrow things down to what it is that you exactly want or need.

We all need to do joint ventures of one sort or another but most of us clearly lack one or other aspect of getting the joint venture done. We either need to have the idea or the resources and then to follow the strategy through followed by the tools. To complete the deal you need to be able to work with people you trust.

Clearly this entire process takes time. That to me is the most important ingredient – time – all things take time. If we have the necessary commitment and persistence and everything else we then need time to develop trust for our future joint ventures to pay off.

Fundamentally for many this may sound like common sense but essentially joint ventures are being done all the time by many companies both large and small all around the world.

The big issue for many is how to find the right partner to ‘partner’ with. A lot of time, effort and energy goes into creating your business but we all know, whether we talk about it openly or not, there is always more that can be done to get more out of our business for the benefit of others and ourselves.

By finding the right partner or person to work with we can leverage this hidden potential in our own business. So yes most of us are continually looking for the right joint venture all the time. We do this by joining clubs, attending seminars, playing golf, whatever gets us in contact with other people. To speed up the process many of us now belong to online social or business networks to narrow done the field of finding a joint venture partner.

Essentially at the end of the day we want to be able to work with someone we trust and the only way to do that is to be able to meet the person in person. Due to today’s enhanced forms of communication we are now even able to do this online.

Besides good old fashioned text we are now able to go further and make use of online audio and video to convey to others what our needs are and allow others to see what we can also offer as well.

Synergy between the two parties can be greatly enhanced by the online experience but the final clincher is and still remains the opportunity of meeting in person.

Once we are happy to form a joint venture with someone we then need to seal the deal. Knowledge of putting together a joint venture is therefore imperative. My experience leads me to believe that no two joint ventures are identical as there is no right or wrong way of putting a deal together. Some well thought out guidelines based on successful joint ventures case studies could then be extremely useful.

Now the questions remain:
What on and offline resources can I use both to further my desires to find the partners with the necessary resources to match our joint needs?
So where do we meet online and where do we meet in person and what resources can I draw on to make this all a success?

More when we next meet…….

One of those aha moments came to me the other day when I was reading one of Joel Comm’s books.

He mentions that the best way to joint venture with someone is to go to a live event. There you will have the opportunity to meet and greet people and begin to develop relationships. He mentions that his business success is related to the number of people he knows and meets at various events around the world.

Reading one of Jay Abraham’s publications recently he also states that your success is directly related to the number of people you know or have in your network.

So attending more live events for me has become a must do activity to find and have the success I want in the future. My question to you today is – how many live events have you lined up to attend for yourself this year?

Not only am I going to attend at least five live events this year starting next week but I have also committed myself to organizing a live event for interested people to attend later on in the year. More about that in future posts….

This one fact astounded me the other day. There are over 40 million small to medium sized businesses in the US and 40 million English speaking businesses world wide AND they do not have a clue about doing joint ventures!

So according to business maestro Jay Abraham we all have a ‘pretty good market if you are going to do joint ventures’ with or for others.

Well if the majority of us do not have a clue of how to do joint ventures just where do we start? What resources are available to us out there and just exactly why should we do a joint venture. This post is the first of many that will look inside the world of joint ventures, strategic alliances, partnerships and dealmaking. Just why are they so important and how can we use them to our best advantage.
